Summary programme

The main training event, on 19 October, is chaired by Rebecca Thompson, CIOB President, and introduces the suite of projects in and around Bishop Auckland, alongside wider heritage project tools and considerations.

This is followed by site visits to up to 5 strands of project type (limited numbers and subject to timing and availability restrictions)

  • Town area, also marking the 50th Anniversary year of Conservation Area Legislation

  • Town Buildings, including interiors

  • The Estate around Auckland Castle, including works

  • The Mining Art Gallery, linked to its opening

  • Auckland Castle and works (subject to access and offered on first come basis to paid bookings) SEE NOTE BELOW

o There is an optional evening talk and networking reception buffet on 18 October at which delegates can hear a full introduction to developments for the programme inspiration and private lead, Jonathan and Jane Ruffer.

NB: CASTLE TOURS There are optional tours of the Castle at 4pm and after on 18 October and 19th October (subject to access and offered on first come basis to paid bookings)

Tours at 13.30 and 14.30 end at the Town Hall where refreshments are on offer from 15.30

After refreshments delegates are encouraged to undertake personal tours of the town and estate with colleagues.

Those on any of the Castle Tour options from 16.00, should arrange to be at the entrance to the castle at their allotted time. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

After the personal tours the conference closes for those not continuing to the Castle Tour option.
